Spatial reconfiguration options, design work and planning application drawings to fully renovate and extended an existing detached dwelling on Dunham Road, Bowden to provide a beautiful 5 bedroom property.
The proposal seeks the conversion and rear extension of an existing garage, intended to accommodate a new open-plan kitchen/living area, a new single-story side extension, designated for the provision of a formal living room, and a first-floor extension above the existing garage. Furthermore, the plan encompasses the construction of a new carport along with associated landscaping works. The existing property has been retained and remodelled to work with the new two storey side and rear extensions. The new home provides luxury open plan contemporary living spaces whilst maintaining grand traditional elevations, materials and detailing to the buildings exterior. The selection of materials for the proposed development primarily draws from those commonly found in the conservation area, notably brick and natural stone, ensuring consistency with the existing architectural vernacular. This approach aims to preserve the cohesive aesthetic character of the neighbourhood while seamlessly integrating the new structures with the surrounding environment. Special attention is given to matching the materials with those used in the existing house, maintaining visual harmony and continuity throughout the property. To the rear elevation, there is a deliberate emphasis on incorporating glass elements. This strategic use of glass serves to visually connect the interior spaces with the rear garden areas and proposed sunken garden below, enhancing the sense of openness and integration with the outdoor environment. This design feature not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the space but also promotes a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living areas, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere. The proposed hard and soft landscaping scheme for the front of the property is designed to harmonize seamlessly with the Victorian-era aesthetic of neighbouring structures, including the converted stable block at Oakleigh and the existing residence at 43 Dunham Road. Central to this scheme is the installation of a traditional water feature aligned with the main axis of the house, serving as a focal point and accentuating the symmetry of the front doors. Crafted from natural stone, this feature will serve as the centrepiece of the proposed new hardstanding area, while also defining a circulatory route for vehicles utilizing the driveway. |
